Austin's Best Happy Hours

Ride off into the Sunset for Happy Hour and Brunch at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse

There is an old Cowboy saying, “Never drink unless you’re alone or with somebody.” I can’t think of a place more fittin’ to do either than “Steiner Ranch Steakhouse” and, trust me, it ain’t my first rodeo. Stepping through the door of this restaurant placed high on a Steiner Ranch hilltop with panoramic views at every turn, one is reminded of our fine Texas Heritage. A nod to yesteryear, vintage photographs of the Steiner Family and their ranching adventures liven up the walls while furniture upholstered with cowhide and rich leather bring to mind the imagined decor of John Wayne’s boudoir. You might take a shot of courage and ask to try sittin’ on one of the original hand tooled Buck Steiner saddles that greet you at the front door…but I reckon they’ll say no.

Speakin’ of wettin’ your whistle, mosey on out to the patio for their happy hour, which is every day from 4-7. Belly up to the bar and prop up your boots for an evening of sheer relaxation. Enjoy sunset music from folks like AcoustaCafe, Drew Womack or Cody Blue while sippin’ on your pick of top shelf libations. Complete with a fire pit, a stage for the band, room to dance and enough tables to sit you and your entire posse, it boasts what is arguably Austin’s most amazing view of Lake Travis.

Last Sunday, Rachal, Dawn and I rode out to dine real lady-like at their brand spankin’ new brunch. Though it was a bit too breezy to sit alfresco, we chose the next best thing – a table with a beautiful view right outside the window. Brunch is a la carte, so we ordered seafood crepes, pancakes with blueberry syrup, Texas-style eggs benedict with biscuits and gravy on the side. Whoa Nellie, it was good.

A carving station offers ham and turkey for just $5 extra, and I can’t think of one good argument against it, dagnabbit. There is another old cowboy saying, “Never worry ’bout bitin’ off more than you can chew, your mouth is bigger’n you think.”

So head ‘em up, and move ‘em out to Steiner Ranch Steakhouse, for Texas inspired fun with a view from the top.

Brunch is served from 11am-2pm with $3 Mimosas and a $7 Bloody Mary Bar, and will be served on Easter Sunday. Happy Hour is EVERY DAY from 4 to 7, and half priced happy hour appetizers start at 5. For more on Steiner Ranch Steakhouse specials, and to reserve your table, visit Austinontherocks.com.
